Ten Canoes (or, You're A RACIST!!!)

Ten Canoes is another in the list of Oz flicks I have seen but not reviewed yet because I'll eventually get around to reviewing for Film Exposed.

I want to say this though, in the spirit of Australian journalism at the moment, if you don't like this film, YOU ARE A RACIST!

Jamie Gulpilil is hot and if you don't think so, YOU ARE A RACIST!

If this film doesn't get nominated for the best foreign language Oscar, then THEY'RE ALL RACISTS!!!.

Seriously though, Ten Canoes is quite an achievement and really shows the marks of a true collaboration between the Yolngu people and de Heer, for better or worse. I remember when I was writing stories with the kids in Jigalong and their favourite stories and themes were barely recognisable to me as narrative; de Heer has found a happy balance by including two differently structured stories intertwined.

At times Ten Canoes feels a bit like an ethnographic documentary but it is so deeply Aboriginal in its structure, humour and attitude that it is easy to dismiss that spectre of the past.

I have no idea about what sort of masturbatory gig you have going on but I'll have none of it.

Thank you!

Lordy, it's like every cheesy, well-meaning but downright annoyingly stupid email I have ever received from a work colleague (who shall remain nameless), rolled into one. Astounding!

If only s/he had included a picture of a kitten, and finished by saying: "Pass this on to everyone you know and you will receive $50 from Microsoft" it would have been perfect.

lol.

COuldn't agree more with the stuff about Ten Canoes. Well, people aren't necessarily racist if they don't like it, but they definitely have something completely loose in their brain.

I haven't of heard on person who didn't like it though, so that's alright.

forget a for-your-consideration ad campaign...just go for a you-are-racist-if-you-don't-vote-for-it campaign.
