In The (Cement) Jungle...

The streets of London were turned into a theatre these last few days whilst they were visited by a young giantess and a three storey high elephant as a part of Royal de Luxe's production "The Sultan's Elephant".

Today was nothing short of spectacular. Seeing a massive elephant stroll through Piccadilly followed by a French band and a horde of onlookers. Remember the apocolyptic vision of "Twelve Monkeys"? Where all the animals roamed the deserted streets of the city. It was reminiscent of that. Words can't really do it justice.

In addition to the elephant there was a little giantess who had a penchant for stitching cars to the road. Destructive little fucker if you ask me but she seemed to have her heart in the right place; she spent the day giving rides to the kiddies. And many a kiddy there was. It was wonderful to see so many families and friends out in the park. There was a palpable community feeling, one that until now I haven't felt here till today.

I jumbled together some and this little flick so you can share the love.

When they eventually reached the parade ground and the giantess climbed into her time travelling ship and disappeared I was actually quite touched. All in all, a surprisingly effective piece of theatre on the grandest of scales.

Cool - I heard about this via Towleroad, who commented on the crashed space ship and the elephant also. It sounds absolutely fucking amazing! I'm jealous. London sounds so cool...

It was sublime. And the turn out was fantastic. There was a real buzz in the air and everyone was walking around with smiles on their faces.

Warmed the cockles!

It was very cool and thoroughly thought through.

From a purely logistical perspective it was amazing. The roads that had to be closed, police on patrol, ambulances. It was impressive.

They actually dug up part of the road where the ship landed to make it more authentic. The cars that were stitched to the road were real cars and the rope they were stitched with actually looked like it threaded into the road.

It was all worth it though, the vibe was awesome. Seeing everyone picnicing with their friends did make me miss everyone though.

London is cool but quite isolating.
